From March to November 2015, Trimetari Consulting specialists performed a series of laser scanning of administrative and public buildings in the cities of Syktyvkar, Ryazan, Salekhard, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Naberezhnye Chelny, Volgograd (Russia). The purpose of laser scanning is to create 3D-models of facades for designing video mapping (3D mapping). Architectural video mapping is a projection technology used to turn buildings, often irregularly shaped, into a display surface for video projection.

Special computer technologies allow you to create a 3D model of the object to be projected onto, and then change it in accordance with the video-mapping scenario. After that, the “corrected” 3D image of the object is projected onto the real object, which gives the illusion of changing the object itself.

Laser scanning was carried out on very different objects like administration building in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk or the Ryazan Drama Theater or the world-famous sculpture “Motherland Calls” in Volgograd. Due to the high speed of laser scanning technology, the work was carried out as quickly as possible, without erecting scaffolding, with minimal human influence. The resulting 3D models of buildings and structures had high detail and accuracy, more than sufficient for designing video-mapping content. At work, ground-based laser scanners FARO and Leica ScanStation C10, P20 were used.
